The Date of the Exodus: Does it Matter? (Part 2)

Exodus 1:11 is one of the most crucial passages in studying the Exodus-Con quest date. According to the passage, “they [the Egyptians] set taskmas ters over them [the Israelites] to afflict them with heavy burdens. They built for Pharaoh store cities, Pithom and Rameses.” For those examining the Exodus, identify ing these cities’ location and time of building is key to establishing a potential date for Israelite presence in Egypt and Exodus from Egypt. The major problem and source of debate for scholars concerning this passage is that neither of these cities have been convincingly identified.
